Who:
About JDRF and type 1 diabetes (T1D). T1D is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. The goal of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing the disease. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, non-traumatic lower limb amputations, and new cases of blindness among adults in the United States. Each year, more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults – approximately 80 people per day – are diagnosed with T1D in the United States. T1D accounts for $14.9 billion in health care costs in the United States each year.
For every 200 employees at a company, 10 will have diabetes and about 5% of Americans with diabetes have T1D. The annual cost of healthcare for each person in the US with diabetes is $11,700 compared to $4,400 for each person without diabetes.
What:
JDRF Long Island is pleased to present One Night in Vegas. This event is a festive evening featuring casino style gambling for prizes, fine food, spirits and entertainment. A silent auction and raffle of high-end items, services, and getaways round out the entertainment. All proceeds from this event will benefit the world’s most promising and cutting-edge diabetes research.
